Spencer James has spent over 15 years working across the media industry, with more than a decade behind the microphone as a radio broadcaster.
Over the years, he’s built a diverse career both on-air and behind the scenes. His experience includes serving as Programming Controller for the UK’s first bilingual student radio station, Production & Promotions Manager for one of Spain’s largest English-language radio networks, and hosting both drive time and breakfast shows across the South East of England.
Spencer’s passion for media began in television, where he worked as a First Assistant Director on several short films - one of which received a nomination from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. It was during his time at University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he studied Film & Television, that he truly found his calling in radio. Starting out as a presenter, he quickly progressed to Programme Manager, a role he held for two years.
After graduating, what was meant to be a short stint abroad turned into a three-year chapter in Spain, where he played a key role in the day-to-day running of a major radio station. Returning to the UK, Spencer joined AA Roadwatch as one of the “flying eyes,” delivering live travel reports from a light aircraft across North London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire - an experience that was slightly less glamorous than it sounds!
Away from the studio, Spencer is a keen supporter of England rugby, enjoys a round of golf (with mixed results), and spends time experimenting in the kitchen - often creating inventive dishes with varying degrees of success.
